Nomads Sky is a simple prototype of a space game with destruction, explosions, and resource collection.

Check out my new major game Fracture Hell for free right here on itch in the browser, enjoy!

Description

Welcome Nomad. You are a space pilot for the Unimine Corporation. Your job is to fly through uncharted space territory to find rare minerals the company needs for its services. One of those services is cloning. Your DNA is saved in the corporation's servers.

Once you start your journey through space you can not return. You have to manage your fuel and oxygen to survive. You can mine and gather ice (O2 generation), plutonium (fuel generation), and cobalt(ship maintenance and repairs) to survive longer. The ship's processor will turn the stored ice and plutonium into their usable forms over time. But beware of your ship's weight, because the more you store in your cargo hold, the harder your ship handles.

While surviving you should look out for the rare mineral painite the company needs and gather as much as you can. You can find delivery drones throughout the universe to send the collected painite to the nearest company outpost. Sending painite via drones costs fuel and cobalt, so sending as much painite at once is better than sending small packages.
If you die on your journey the ship and all the cargo is lost. The company will create a new clone and send you on your way.

Gathering resources is possible by using your mining laser or other means to destroy asteroids and collecting the resources.

DISCLAIMER: For some reason, the vibration does not work on all controllers. I tested it on 2 Xbox controllers, with the older one (connected via cable) everything works perfectly, with the newer one (connected via Bluetooth) vibration does not work at all or very weirdly... Therefore you can toggle vibration via the F1 key if the vibration does not work correctly.

Known Bugs (game jam version only):

- Once fuel/o2 is depleted the processor, unfortunately, does not start processing again....even if you pick up new resources like ice and promethium. In other words: the processor works fine as long as your tanks are not empty.

no update ? awww, so sad, we love this game

I don´t think there will be another update :( It is more likely that I make a new game similar to this^^ But I am glad you like it :D

You can check out the new demo for Fractur Hell in the browser if you want. Nomads Sky is the reason I made Fracture Hell after all.

I am sorry but there will be no update anymore for nomads sky ;(

But my next game will be very similar to Nomads Sky, called Galaxy Unknown. If you want a very early taste you can check out the Shape Engine Demo. Shape Engine is my custom-made Engine for developing Galaxy Unknown and the Demo is basically how Galaxy Unknown will look and feel.

I hope this helps a little with the bad news :)

happy xmass  sweet SoloByteGames :o)

thanks, to you too :]

Do you know what is the main performance cost for your game? I'm getting 5 fps on my mac. And have you ever tested fracturing Godot on mobile before?

I have only tested the game on 2 or 3 systems and all of them are windows, so I can not really tell you much about the performance on a mac. But I tested it on my laptop and it seemed to run fine there. 5 fps of course is not an acceptable framerate... The fracturing polygon tool for Godot is not yet used in this project but it is used on another game of mine called Fracture Hell, so you could test the performance there as well.

no update :-/   awwwww /o\

Yeah, I got a little sidetracked with my polygon 2d fracture tool for Nomads Sky ;) But soon I will be back working on Nomads Sky!

Man, i really would like to know how did you implement the destructable terrain. Is it smartShape2d?

No I am just using Godot Polygon2d Nodes + the Godot Geometry class tied together with my own code :)

I made 2 scripts for fracturing polygons and I am currently in the process of adding the cutting of polygons (like you see it in Nomads Sky) to those scripts. The scripts are available on itch and github :D

I hope that helps ;)

Man, consider yourself virtually hugged.

Thanks;)

My polygon 2d fracture tool received the cutting update and should now be capable of doing what you see in Nomads Sky (and more) :) In the next weeks, I will start using the fracture tool in Nomads Sky so you can see it in action!

yuupííííí new version, giggles  ^.^ ♥
